Solid Oil Cleanser

This oil cleanser is exactly what it says. It uses oils to cleanse your face. If you’ve never tried the “oil cleansing method” then look it up (sites dedicated to this method can explain it better and more in depth than I can in this small space), there are numerous websites describing in detail what it does and why it’s good for your skin!

In a nutshell, like dissolves like, and the oils penetrate deep into your skin to remove dirt, impurities, etc. without stripping your skin of your natural oils. I’ve used this method for 5 years now and it has balanced my skin in ways I never thought would happen. I tend to be on the dry side, but by using the oil cleansing method, I no longer am too dry or too oily – my skin is so much more balanced than it’s been in my whole life and my pores are greatly reduced – so many good things!

I have a “liquid’ form of an oil cleanser – it’s my Tamanu Cleansing Oil. This solid cleanser is different in that it is a “solid” form. It has some additional oils as well as mango butter and beeswax to help it solidify. The biggest difference is probably the addition of bentonite clay and kaolin clay. They offer a very gentle exfoliant component. So if you’ve tried the oil cleansing method but just aren’t sure if you are actually getting your face “clean”, then this cleanser might be for you. You are still oil cleansing, but there is a little more substance and a very small amount of “grit” which helps cleanse.

Within this product the clay settles a bit unevenly. For the most part it’s distributed throughout, but don’t panic if one day you feel a bit more “grit” than another – it’s part of the beauty of a homemade product. There are minor inconsistencies from batch to batch – obviously because I make these at home, in my farmhouse kitchen, and am not a huge lab or facility that has the perfect equipment and most precise stirring and pouring capabilities. To use: take a nickel size amount (or more or less depending on preference), and rub onto a dry face. You heard that right, all your makeup is still on, your face has all the dirt of the day on it – you take this green glob of cleanser and spread it all over your face! You rub it in for about a minute then take a steaming hot washcloth and lay over your face. Rewet your washcloth if necessary, then after it’s lost it’s heat, gently wipe off all the excess oil cleanser and moisture as needed.

Ingredients: Tamanu Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Castor Oil, Mango Butter, Beeswax, Camelina Oil, Safflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Kaolin Clay, Bentonite Clay, Carrot Seed Oil.

Tamanu Oil: anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, stimulates collagen production, fights against acne, helps with redness and scarring from acne or wounds, diminishes redness, leaves skin feeling softer and smoother.

Grapeseed Oil: helps with skin elasticity and softness, helps tighten pores, reduces appearance of scars, heals acne, lightweight, noncomedogenic.

Castor Oil:   reduces puffiness, antibacterial properties, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory – works as a carrier oil – cleanses deeply

Mango Butter: helps to moisturize and soften and full of vitamin E and Vitamin C.

Beeswax: helps to soften skin and form protective barrier to protect skin, has antiseptic properties and Vitamin A which is good for regenerating skin.

Camelina Oil: rich in fatty acids and Vitamin E, replenishes dry skin while balancing oily skin, protects and soothes.

Safflower Oil: noncomedogenic, enhances texture and tone of skin – helps it retain moisture.

Sweet Almond Oil: full of fatty acids to help retain moisture, and give a soft smooth appearance, and is great for acne prone skin

Jojoba Oil:   antioxidant, non-comedogenic, moisturizing, very similar to our skin’s natural sebum, promotes skin aging well.

Kaolin Clay: has anti-bacterial properties to it, helps to cleanse well and remove impurities and reduce blemishes.

Bentonite Clay: helps to absorb dirt and oil and has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Carrot Seed Oil: contains skin mending vitamin A and collagen boosting vitamin C, antibacterial properties, anti-fungal properties.
