I think the answer to this question is probably a little different for each of us. Certain things may be more important to me than you, or vice versa.

Our values, priorities, and the culture we are surrounded by greatly influence what’s important to us as we get older. For some maybe physical health is of the utmost importance. For others, maybe it’s finances. For others yet….maybe it’s family and legacy. Perhaps it’s a bit of all of the above.

It’s easy as women to get caught up in what the culture around us tells us is important. For us women it can look like trying most anything to preserve our wrinkly skin, our shifting teeth, our bulging tummies, our graying hair, and the list goes on…..

Let’s take just a few minutes and look at what scripture says about “aging well”.

Proverbs 31:30 “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”

I want to touch on this a bit….and this obviously applies to women young or older…..our physical beauty matters very little, but do we fear the Lord? Take the time to read through all of Proverbs 31….it discusses the “virtuous woman”.

Proverbs 31:28 “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.” Are strength and honor our clothing? Or are we more concerned about getting just the right outfit so we look our best…..does it matter if our outer appearance is spot on, if our heart does not radiate Christ from within?

All of this comes to mind because I see sooooo many really beautiful women, even at very young ages, taking some pretty extreme measures in order to maintain “beauty”.

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature: because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”  We are God’s image bearers……..is that what is shining forth from us, or are we more focused on what we think our image should be? Where is my focus….myself, or on the God who created me? If it’s on me….then I will always be disappointed and fall short…..if I’m looking to Jesus – who is the author and finisher of my faith….that is where I can have peace – even with all the imperfections of this earthly body.

Psalms 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” jump down to verse 16-17 “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!”

God created us in His image…..we are fearfully and wonderfully made….he knows every part of us, the strengths, the weaknesses…..and his thoughts toward us are precious. Let that sink in…..

Now without turning this into a full on book…..let’s briefly touch on what this practically looks like…..because we live in a culture where there seems to be a standard that we are all striving toward. But the standard we SHOULD be striving for is this……Colossians 2:2-3 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth, for ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”

Colossians 3:15-17 “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

What in the world does this have to do with skincare? Actually a lot……

As we age…..which really starts the moment we are born! But as we age…..we want to more and more become like Christ, bear His image well….we want Christ’s light to shine and radiate through us…..not our own light. We want the Word to dwell richly in us, so it can flow out of us. We want to have our eyes on HIM, not ourselves. Easier said than done I realize. Especially in a culture that is constantly pointing us back to ourselves.

So skincare……shall we just let ourselves go and only read our Bibles and do nothing else…..obviously no…it says in Ephesians we were created in Christ Jesus unto good works, that we should walk in them. God has things for us to do! We are to let our light shine for HIM!

We are to steward the things He has given us! Back to the Proverbs 31 woman….she looketh well to her household, she got up early, took care of her family, she worked willingly with her hands.

As we age we need to care for the bodies God gave us….with a heart that is not misplaced. What is your why? Is it so people will think you look like an amazing 40 year old or 60 year old? Is it so you won’t be so depressed about how many years have passed by when you look in the mirror? Is it so you feel good? Is it so you can keep up with your kids and grandkids? Some of those are valid reasons….but the true “why” I believe needs to go deeper or we will always be disappointed.

We can do all the right things and our bodies may still fail us…..we sometimes have limitations that simply can’t be overcome no matter what we do (this side of heaven!).

I want to take care of my body so I can complete the work God has for me here on this earth….for as long or as little as that may be. That encompasses all areas of life….my health, my home, my family, my finances, etc. In order to do this….I have to be in the Word – constantly shifting my focus back to HIM, and off of myself….

So that is the heart behind the skincare I make. I desire for it to be a “help” to you, to nourish and feed your skin the good things it needs to fight against all the negative impact of sun exposure, aging, chemicals both external and internal that we come in contact with.

I desire myself to use clean products, that work, and that are simple and effective. And that’s what I’m offering to you.

And I am SO EXCITED as I feel like we have some amazing options of oils and tallow and things to use, that when combined together, really do help our skin to age well!

But just remember…..it doesn’t matter how well your skin ages, if your heart is not aging well. And that is good news to all of us – it’s totally free, available to absolutely anyone, the ability to work on our hearts…..and that’s what makes the most lasting impact and offers the best legacy!

Hope these verses bless you my friend…..and feel free to check out my store page if you are wanting oils and moisturizers and cleansers that will build your skin up and nourish it!

We are a small family business – I make these oils/creams right in my kitchen (super picky about cleanliness) in small batches on our little ranch we’ve lived on for years here in middle of Kansas.
